Heather Hart

Heather Hart joined the KSU faculty in 2015 as part-time Assistant Professor of music.  She holds degrees in Violin Performance from the North Carolina School of the Arts and Oberlin College Conservatory and a Doctor of Music Degree in Violin Performance from Florida State University.  She is active as a violinist in the Atlanta area, performing as a member of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra and the John’s Creek Symphony Orchestra.  She has performed throughout the Southeast at colleges, music festivals, and concert series with the Andean folk music ensemble, Vientos del Pueblo.  In addition, she maintains a private violin studio and serves as a frequent clinician in local schools.  

 

Previously, Dr. Hart held the position of rotating Principal Second Violin with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra in Lisbon, Portugal, and served on the faculty at the Lisbon Metropolitan Academy of Music.  While in Portugal she performed frequent solo recitals and chamber music performances as violinist in the Tagide Quartet.  Upon returning to the United States, she accepted a position as violinist with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra.  

 

While pursuing her doctoral degree, Dr. Hart served as concertmaster of the Florida State University Opera Orchestra, Associate Concertmaster of the FSU Chamber Orchestra, taught Applied Violin and Chamber Music at Florida State University, and earned a certificate in Pedagogy of Music Theory.  It was during this time that she developed her strong commitment to music education.  She spent her summers as a faculty member of the Florida State University String Orchestra Camp and Camp Encore-Coda in Sweden, ME, where she conducted the String Orchestra.  In 2001, Dr. Hart accepted a position as Orchestra Director of the Duluth Middle School in Gwinnett County, where she taught for four years.  She has continued to hone her teaching skills, attending conferences and pursuing teacher training at the Atlanta Suzuki Institute.
