Dr. Hyunju Shin is an Associate Professor of Marketing at the Coles College of Business, Kennesaw State University. She holds a Ph.D. in Marketing with a minor in Social Psychology and an M.S. in Marketing from The University of Alabama. She earned her B.A. in Business Administration and English Language & Literature from Sookmyung Women’s University in Seoul, Korea.
Prior to her current role, Dr. Shin held academic positions at Georgia Southern University as a tenured Associate Professor and at McNeese State University as a tenure-track Assistant Professor. She has taught a wide range of marketing courses and consistently contributed to the academic community through high-impact research, editorial service, and conference leadership.
Dr. Shin’s research interests include relationship marketing in services, branding, luxury marketing, and sustainability. She has published 32 peer-reviewed articles, including 26 in A*- or A-level journals, such as Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Research, European Journal of Marketing, Psychology & Marketing, International Journal of Production Economics, Journal of Services Marketing, Journal of Service Theory and Practice, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, and International Journal of Consumer Studies. As of August 2026, her work has been cited 3,155 times on Google Scholar.
She has received numerous accolades both externally and within her institution, including:

In editorial roles, Dr. Shin serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Consumer Behaviour. She has also served as a Guest Editor for special issues of Internet Research, Journal of Marketing Management, Journal of Consumer Behaviour, Journal of Consumer Marketing, and Business Ethics, the Environment & Responsibility. In addition, she is a member of the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Current Issues and Research in Advertising and the Asia Marketing Journal.
Dr. Shin is actively involved in academic conferences. Most recently, she served as Co-Program Chair for the 2025 Academy of Marketing Science (AMS) Annual Conference in Montreal, Canada. She has also served as Co-Chair of the International Society of Luxury Management (ISLUX) in Paris, France, since its inception. A long-time supporter of AMS, Dr. Shin has participated annually in the AMS Annual Conference and/or the AMS World Marketing Congress (WMC) while serving the organization in a variety of leadership roles. She currently serves as AMS Vice President of Global Membership and previously held the positions of Vice President of Communication and Director of Online Seminars.

Dr. Shin's research mentoring was featured in Kennesaw State News for a collaborative study examining how courtroom attire influences public perceptions of celebrities.
