Lei Shi
Professor Shi earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University in 2021, following the completion of his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis in 2016.
Before joining KSU, he held the position of Postdoctoral Researcher at Columbia University, collaborating closely with Dr. Vijay Vedula. As the Director of the Intelligent Biomechanics Lab, Professor Shi leads research efforts at the intersection of experimental, computational, and machine-learning technologies, with a primary focus on soft tissue investigations. His work encompasses various areas, including cardiovascular, reproductive, and gastrointestinal systems, as well as soft robotics. He is one of the main contributor to the open-source FEA software - svFSI (https://github.com/SimVascular/svFSI) and several other projects (Github).
In addition to his research responsibilities, Professor Shi actively contributes to the scientific community by serving as a peer reviewer for esteemed journals such as Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, Journal of Biomechanical Engineering, Acta Biomaterialia, and Journal of Biomechanics.
