Smartphone-Based Invisible Data Matrix Reader
In this project, we developed smartphones-based device to read invisible data matrix, find product ID information within data matrix, compare the product identity credentials stored within the database, determine whether the product is legal or illegal and ensure tracking and detection by giving instant information to law enforcement authority about illegal items. First, an apparatus was developed and integrated onto a smartphone. This device will illuminate onto the invisible data matrix with a particular wavelength light from LEDs. Therefore, invisible data matrix will become visible. Second, a special filter placed on the apparatus will filter the data matrix image and smartphone’s camera captures the data matrix image. Using image processing techniques, the captured data matrix image was converted into a binary image and product credential was obtained. Finally, obtained product identification information was queried from a database through internet and user was informed immediately if the product in the database. With this project, we will develop an affordable and portable invisible data matrix reader system using smartphones that can easily make the detection of illegal products and helps to government officials to minimize a cause loss of taxes and public health-threat.
