Samuel Oatts

A multi-faceted recording artist, Sam Oatts can be heard as the trumpet soloist on CBS Mornings. Playing the theme and incidental music featuring reinventions of the Abblasen fanfare, the show airs nationally Monday through Saturday, 7-9am on all CBS affiliates. Sam has also worked alongside indie acts and major label recording artists in the capacity of arranger, producer, contractor, trumpet soloist, and bassist. His solo 2013 rock record, Daybreak (under the moniker, “Hudson Hank”), was produced by Coldplay’s Guy Berryman reaching worldwide listenership and critical media acclaim.

 

He has performed in world renown clubs, concert halls, and theaters, from CBGBs to Carnegie Hall in 49 states and nearly 30 countries with orchestras, Broadway shows, big bands, and as a soloist/clinician. Notable Broadway national tour credits include An American in Paris, West Side Story, Wicked, Chicago, Fiddler on the Roof, Come Fly Away, and Chita Rivera: A Dancer’s Life. Recently, Sam settled in the American southwest, performing regularly with the Phoenix Symphony, Denver Brass, and his recent appointment as Associate Principal Trumpet with the New Mexico Philharmonic.

 

As an educator, Sam previously taught at the University of Denver, Arizona State University, and Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona.

 

He received his BM from Manhattan School of Music, MM from the University of Denver, and is in the dissertation phase of a DMA from Arizona State University. His primary instructors were Jim Pandolfi, Mark Gould, Robert Sullivan, Peter Masseurs, Al Hood, and Josef Burgstaller.
