Dr. Guerra-Zubiaga earned his Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering in the United Kingdom.  He has 22 years combined industrial and academic experience, half working in the glass and energy industries, and the remainder at four-year higher education institutions. 

Dr. Guerra-Zubiaga has 12 years significant experience on product design and manufacturing engineering at important industry groups such as: XIGNUX, VITRO, CEMEX, WHIRLPOOL, METALSA and Jones Metal Products. He has 15 years in teaching and research experience from MSU, Texas A&M University (TAMU), Loughborough University (Lboro) and ITESM. 

Dr.  Guerra-Zubiaga supervised 3 Ph.D., 23 Master degrees as theses director, and 17 Master theses as external examiner. Related to technological developments at industry, he has completed several important projects in collaboration with academia, industry, government, as well as international research centers with significant income gained.

Dr. Guerra-Zubiaga has a productive collaborative work with universities located at USA, Canada, Mexico, UK, Switzerland, Italy and Spain; such as: MSU, TAMU, Old Dominium University, Purdue University, McGill University, ITESM, Lboro, University of Bath, Fribourg University, University of Applied Science and Arts North Western Switzerland, Politecnico di Torino, and Universidad Politecnica de Valencia. Working with these universities he has produced 20 international publications, and 30 interchange students as general strategic collaboration outputs. Related to research publication he has produced one book, two patents, 18 chapters in book, 15 refereed academic journal papers, 23 international refereed conference papers, 17 conference contribution in Mexico. He produced 76 pieces of research work published in total.

Dr. Guerra-Zubiaga has an interest in linking industry, academia, government and research centers collaboration, he led TAMU Alliance working in Texas A&M University Research Park. This alliance was in 2012 between TAMU and Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT). In 2010 he worked on an important industry-academia schema between companies such as: Ternium, Cerrey, Ami-GE, Schneider, Honeywell, Prolec-GE and ITESM creating a consortium for the promotion of applied research and technological development in Mexico. In parallel, he was promoted as principal investigator for the "Research Chair in Nanotechnology and Materials" from industry side.

Dr. Guerra-Zubiaga is Associate Editor for the International Journal of Computer Integrated Manufacturing (IJCIM). He holds the title of Level 1 investigator from the Sistema Nacional de investigadores (SNI) from the CONACYT in Mexico and continues his work in research areas related to Manufacturing System Integration, Factory of the Future, Sustainable Manufacturing, Manufacturing and Design Knowledge Management, Product Life-cycle Management (PLM), New Product and Technology Introduction, Manufacturing and Product Design using Nanomaterials.
