Michael DeSousa
An avid performer in a variety of musical styles, Dr. DeSousa has performed with the Atlanta Pops Orchestra, the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the Colla Voce Brazilian Music Group, the Temptations, and the DiMartino/Osland Jazz Orchestra, among others. From 2016-2018, Dr. DeSousa toured full-time with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, performing in venues across the United States, Canada, and Japan. As a soloist, Dr. DeSousa has been featured with the Berry College Wind Ensemble (2023), at the 2021 International Trombone Festival in Columbus, GA, the 2019 American Trombone Workshop in Washington, D.C., and the 2018 Great American Brass Band Festival in Danville, KY. He has also been involved in numerous recording projects including the 80th Anniversary of the Army Air Force Band (2024) and The Glenn Miller Orchestra: Live in Japan DVD (2018) with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, as well as his own solo album, Points of Departure (2022). As an educator, Dr. DeSousa gives frequent masterclasses and clinics as well as maintains an active studio with students ranging from middle school through collegiate levels. Dr. DeSousa has earned his Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from the University of Kentucky while studying with Brad Kerns, as well as a Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Kennesaw State University with Dr. Tom Gibson and Wes Funderburk.
