Prof. Natália Souza

Dr. Natália Souza has a background in Biochemistry, SyntheticHeadshot of Prof. Souza posing with a smile. Biology, and Oncology, with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. Her research primarily focused on liver cancer, where she has contributed to understanding cancer cell mechanisms and evaluating potential anti-cancer therapies, leading to multiple publications.

Throughout her academic journey, Dr. Souza has gained experience as a Research Associate both in Belgium and in Brazil. In the latter, she worked on the development of vaccines to replace venom for anti-venom sera production, and developing molecular diagnosis techniques to identify different species of Leishmania.  

In addition to her research, Dr. Souza has been involved in synthetic biology through her involvement with the iGEM UFMG-Brazil Team, where she engaged in the development of synthetic biological systems to address inflammatory diseases, and in public education initiatives.
