Nihal Khote
I am an Associate Professor of TESOL at Kennesaw State University. I also was an ESOL
teacher in Dalton, GA, for 12 years where I was Teacher of the Year (Whitfield County).
My research focuses on supporting in-service teachers by designing professional development
on scaffolding English Learners in their writing and designing lessons that integrate
both content knowledge and disciplinary language in culturally sustaining ways. My
work highlights the urgent need to make pedagogical knowledge about teaching language
and literacy more accessible to ESOL teachers. Having lived in India, Cuba, and Venezuela
before immigrating to the United States, I speak 5 languages and have vast experiences
with different cultures which have shaped my research, pedagogy and advocacy for ELs
and their multilingual meaning making practices in classrooms.
