Research

Dr. Smith's research interests have focused broadly on environmental-economic themes. He has published work and presented papers on food gathering in West Africa, human use of the southern forests of the U.S and the economic geography of Cistercian monasteries.  Recently he has presented work on how to improve geography students' writing scores through the use of metacognition.  Currently he is exploring the pedagogy of climate change.
