Advanced Mechatronics and Intelligent Robotics (AMIR) Lab

Research Interests

My current research interests include Robotics (Kinematics and Dynamics), Soft Robotics (Electroactive Polymer Actuators and Soft Pneumatic Actuators), Dynamic Systems and Control, Robust Control (Quantitative Feedback Theory), Mechanical Vibration, and Smart Materials. The essential element of my research strategy is to use a multidisciplinary design approach which includes mechanical, electrical, and control system design to insure reaching an optimum solution for complex engineering problems.

News:

I am honored to share that I have received NIH award as the Principal Investigator (PI) to work on “DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF SOFT PARALLEL ROBOTS FOR TRANSCATHETER INTERVENTIONS”. The co-investigators of the project are Dr. A. Tekes, and Dr. T. Ashuri.
Robotic catheter technology has the potential to revolutionize the treatment of cardiac disease. However, the existing catheter systems cannot provide the high level of maneuverability that is required for cardiovascular intervention. To address this issue, the current work proposes a novel six degrees of freedom transcatheter robotics system. Upon successful completion of this project, the heart surgeons will have access to a novel efficient device to plan and study new procedures for transcatheter heart surgery.
