Tyra Burton is a Principal Lecturer of Marketing and Honors Lecturer at Kennesaw State University, where she has been a member of the faculty since 2003. With a background in digital content creation and marketing, she has partnered with musicians, game designers, authors, retail brands, and nonprofits to strengthen their missions and digital presence. She primarily teaches Social Media Marketing and Advanced Digital and Content Marketing, and her research interests center on the scholarship of teaching and learning, pop culture, and social media.
Burton was awarded the KSU Outstanding Teaching Award (2022), the university's highest teaching honor, the Coles College Distinguished Teaching Award and the Betty L. Siegel Faculty Member of the Year Award from the KSU Alumni Association. The Social Media Marketing course she designed was selected for the KSU Distinguished Course Repository in 2024.
In Fall 2025, Burton joined the Keeping Sights Upward Journey Honors College as an Honors Lecturer on a two-year appointment, where she teaches honors foundation courses and special topic discovery courses.
Beyond the classroom, Burton is a pioneer in digital content. She began podcasting nearly two decades ago, hosted the Coles College Building Bold Connections Podcast, and co-authored both Socially Engage: The Author's Guide to Social Media and a case study, When Science Fiction Meets Reality: The History, Fandoms, and Logistics of Atlanta's Dragon Con™.
A native Georgian, Burton grew up in Stone Mountain and now lives in Kennesaw with her husband. She holds an undergraduate degree from Georgia State University and graduate credentials from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
