Equipment
PI's Laboratories (SC 458/465): Our two research laboratories are equipped with five Schlenk lines that are supplied by four independent UHP Argon lines with moisture traps, four Edwards RV 12 oil pumps with vacuum gauges – all of them are outfitted with liquid nitrogen traps. We also have four solvent stills (dichloromethane, THF, diethyl ether, toluene, and hexanes), two rotary evaporators with a membrane pump, a deep freezer (–35° C), two regular refrigerators inside and one explosion-proof refrigerator nearby the lab. Three analytical balances, in the labs, two sonicators, eight dewar flasks and a 10 L storage dewar vessel for liquid nitrogen are available. Our drawers and cabinets are filled with (Schlenk) glassware for synthesis and related equipment. There is also a stock area for consumables in the main lab SC 465.
Moreover, since June 2019, the PI’s major lab houses a state-of-the art double MBraun Labstar Pro SP (1800/780) Glovebox with internal deep freezer (–35° C), feedthrough connections for external vacuum sources and cyclic voltammetry. The department has a CHI 660E workstation available to all research groups.
Solvent Purification System (SL 4040): Since 2018, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry houses a brandnew GC-SPS-7 Glass Contour 800L solvent purification system from Pure Process Technology. Seven different dry solvents under argon (dichloromethane, THF, diethyl ether, toluene, hexanes, acetonitrile, and methanol) are available to all chemistry research groups in the department, free of charge.
