Japanese Mathematics Education

English translation of Japanese National Assessment from 2007 to 2015 can be found here, as well as below. There is also the 2016 Grade 6 test below.  These assessments are given to students in Grades 6 and 9, the final year of elementary and lower secondary grades, respectively.  Grade 9 is the last year of the compulsory education in Japan. Problems in Set A focus on procedural fluency while problems in Set B focus more on problem solving/applications.

The following files are the (unofficial) translation of Japanese National Assessment tests. The Ministry of Education assess Grades 6 and 9 students in mathematics and Japanese language every year. They are administered at the beginning of a school year, so they are really assessing students' learning in Grades 1 through 5 (and through Grades 8). Since 2019, they are offering only 1 version of test instead of having Set A for basic skills and procedures and Set B for applications and problem solving.

Here is my translation of the 2015 Grade 6 Science problems. Science tests are given, I believe, every 3 years.

This is an unofficial translation of the Elementary and Lower Secondary School Mathematics Course of Study released in March 2008.

These are unofficial translations of Teaching Guides, elaboration documents the Ministry of Education publishes to explain/elaborate the Course of Study.
